Milkweed seeds need cold treatment before planting, I place the seed on moist paper towels, then put them in a plastic bag and put them in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 weeks. Today I got them out and planted them. I wanted to get them going in january but I did not get the seed in the refrigerator in time. I also started some Spider Milkweed today. I still have some Prairie Milkweed to plant and hope to get them in tomorrow. You can also plant the seed where it is to grow and I have done that too.
Here you can see I try and put two to three seeds per pot. I will try and remember to take more pictures when they come up. It is important to know what seedling look like so you don't pull up the plants you want to keep.
My name is Pat and I have been gardening most of my life. My husband Richard helps out with the heavy stuff. I love butterflies and have a Monarch Waystation. I also love animals and have cats, dogs, horses, angora goats, chickens and guineas.
